A fundamental requirement for most life sciences companies is a foundation in high-quality science. Most young biotech start-ups are spin-offs from universities and other research centres. The Nordic region has a well established academic base and university system which has created not only the Nobel Prize, but also several of its Laureates, particularly within the life sciences fields of medicine, chemistry and biology. In addition, many of its universities have made scientific discoveries that have led to world-leading products within such disparate fields as chromatography, tools for brain surgeons and drugs.
As is true in business, increasing collaboration and grouping into centres is also a common theme within science. In this section, we present world-leading research from the Nordic region.
